Tips
It’s HUGE important when dying sticks to remember a couple key things…If you live alone like I do, making a mess isn’t such a big deal, but if you happen to be living under your parents roof, you gotta remember to ALWAYS be super careful…what you need to know is when you mix the dye (powder form) in water, its always possible that it can splash, and spill all over the place…Also, how you get the dye ready, is by mixing it in water and boiling it on the stove in a large pot. The key to this is, making sure the pot is 1) big enough to take the dye, and 2) not one of your moms expensive pots…she will definately “freak out” if it is…that being said, if you want to go to a swap meet or a flea market, i’m sure you can find a couple used pots there that you can get dirt cheap, this will certainly smooth relations with mom when she walks in the kitchen and you’re at the stove cooking dye…once she see’s that you’re not using her pots she may even wanna tye dye up a shirt like back in the day, and your stick project can take on a new form, you end up with a super wicked new head for lax, and she ends up with a new t shirt…you’re in a win, win situation that way. Like I said earlier, you will be doing up this dye on the stove, around boiling water, so it’s HUGE important that you have an adult present, if you’re a young person, or if you’re a teenager…(like me)…LOL…NOT, then just be careful, BIGTIME. I’m a complete grown up and I still make a mess…So the key to this whole thing is BE CAREFUL, and like my captain always tells me, “safety first, and safety last”, those are words you can live by.
- WHEN PLAYING IN THE RAIN, proper storage of your stick is essential once you’re done. Why? you ask, well it’s so that the pocket maintains consistancy . ALWAYS store it level, NOT standing. And make sure you place a ball in the wet pocket so that when it dries the pocket doesn’t flatten out. the best way to do this is to place three or four books at each end of the stick and don’t let the pocket touch the bench or floor or counter…whatever you’re drying your stick on…this will ensure that the pocket maintain its form, and dries properly. Once it’s dry, your ol buddy will be ready for action
